What’s New in 4G

We have just started reading a novel titled Wonder. It has been a much loved book the past couple of years with my students and it has been made into a movie which will be coming out in November. Please check your child’s agenda for days when they are asked to read and respond in Edmodo. Please make sure that your child is signed up and that their username and password are working.  If your child does not have access to the internet at home, please let me know and I will give them time during the school day to respond. Your child will also have an opportunity to use Edmodo at school.

Your child also has a username and password for the Mpower math website. I encourage your child to go onto this valuable website as it allows your child to practice a variety of mathematical skills. Along with your child’s twenty minute nightly reading, playing the Mpower math games are highly recommended.

Important Dates

                    October 6th- Cross Country Meet

                    October 9th- Thanksgiving-no school

Welcome to Grade 4!

September 6, 2017

Dear Parents,

I would like to welcome you and your child to a great year of learning at Northwood Public School! I am very excited about being your son or daughters’ teacher. I’m committed to provide an enjoyable and engaging, yet challenging learning experience for your child. The monthly newsletters will be posted on our classroom blog (http://mrsgallsclassroomblog.blogspot.ca/). If you require a hard copy, please let me know. You will find a link to my Twitter feed on our blog. Please be sure to follow me on Twitter as I consistently tweet about the learning happening in 4G.

Your child will be responsible for bringing their agenda to school and home each day. The agenda will keep the lines of communication open between school and home. I would appreciate if you could initial the agenda after you have read it. A $2.00 charge will be required for the agenda this year. Please send the money with your child as soon as possible.

Physical activity is a daily occurrence for your child. Please ensure that your child has a pair of running shoes available. It would also be helpful to send your child to school with a bottle of water.

School supplies such as pencils, scissors, erasers, glue sticks, highlighters and coloured pencils will be provided for your child. Extra glue sticks, pencils and erasers and a pencil sharpener are items that your child may choose to have extras of their own. If you choose to, a box of tissues would be a helpful item for our classroom.

I look forward to meeting all of you. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. The school number is 519-969-7610. My extension number is 45016.

Welcome to 4G!

Welcome everyone to 4G!

I'm excited to begin another year of learning and I hope you are as well! Our classroom will have you engaged in a multitude of activities where "Accountable Talk" will get your brain ready for the learning. Get set to help create our "Accountable Talk" anchor chart! Collaborative work will be a large part of what we do in 4G and using technology will also be part of how we Iearn. Working with others is a skill that is necessary in our world and sharing ideas and thoughts is a wonderful way to come up with fantastic ideas! There will be times when you will be engaged in independent tasks as well, and you will need to learn what that "looks like" and "sounds like" in 4G. We will be creating charts for our Learning Skills to help you on your way! The following Learning Skills will be assessed throughout the year: Self Regulation, Responsibility, Collaboration, Independent Work, Initiative and Organization.

I'm feeling extremely lucky to have all of you as part of the 2016/2017 school year! Let's have a fantastic year grade 4's!
